MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 30 AÑOS (1983-XI)

Llegamos al penúltimo mes del año, y hoy toca presentar el segmento musical dedicado a 1983, hace ya 30 años, cuando el que escribe contaba con 20 años de edad. En esta ocasión, he querido elegir dos canciones de una recordada banda canadiense que tuvo bastante figuración en la primera mitad de la década del 80. Me estoy refiriendo al grupo liderado por Mike Reno y Paul Dean, Loverboy.

1.-  HOT GIRLS IN LOVE (Loverboy).- Tras el gran éxito que alcanzó Loverboy con el hit “Working For The Weekend” en 1982, había expectativa por lo que sería su siguiente trabajo musical. Su música era un buen rock, con fuerza, ritmo y bastante adrenalina y era una interesante alternativa rockera dentro del firmamento musical ochentero, en donde predominaba el sonido electrónico o new wave. Y recuerdo que entre setiembre y octubre de 1983, estaba escuchando Radio Doble Nueve y en eso anunciaron como primicia lo nuevo de Loverboy, y era el tema “Hot Girls In Love”. Desde el inicio, con el sonido de la batería, sentías la adrenalina del tema y el ritmo con bastante fuerza rockera, destacando la muy buena interpretación de Mike Reno y el soberbio solo de guitarra de Paul Dean. 

“Hot Girls in Love” fue escrita por Paul Dean y Bruce Fairbairn, y fue producida por Bruce Fairbairn. Fue lanzada como single a fines de 1983, llegando al N° 11 en USA, según Billboard y al N° 2 en el USA Album Rock Tracks. En cuanto al video del tema, sin duda alguna, contribuyó a ese ritmo con harta energía, con la atractiva chica que aparecía en el video y que hacía justicia al título del tema. Recuerdo que lo difundieron de manera regular en el programa musical “La Máquina del Rock” y en “Club 9”. Han transcurrido 30 años de esta buena canción y es momento propicio para recordarlo una vez más.

2.-  QUEEN OF THE BROKEN HEARTS (Loverboy).- En lo personal, siempre he considerado como mi tema favorito del grupo canadiense Loverboy a “Queen Of The Broken Hearts”. No era una canción netamente comercial y poseía un buen ritmo rockero con un sonido acorde con los 80’s. Pero si hubo un factor que sirvió de mucha ayuda fue su video clip, en donde los cinco miembros de la banda alternaban con cinco chicas, cada una más guapa que la otra. El tema fue escrito por Paul Dean y Mike Reno y producido por Bruce Fairbairn. Fue lanzada como single a fines de 1983, llegando al N° 34 en USA, según Billboard. Sin embargo, curiosamente no fue incluida en las dos recopilaciones de la banda, “LOVERBOY CLASSICS” y “BIG ONES”. Y en cuando al video, fue tema de un concurso en MTV en el verano de 1983, en donde un televidente de MTV ganó la oportunidad de salir en el siguiente video de Loverboy, y la ganadora fue una tal Bridget Magnesi, quien apareció brevemente en una toma, detrás de unos monitores de computadoras alrededor de 15 segundos dentro del video. 30 años después, evocamos nuevamente esta gran canción.

Este ha sido el penúltimo segmento musical de 1983. Espero que estos dos buenos tema de Loverboy hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, espero sus comentarios.
