MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 25 AÑOS (1989-II)

Hemos llegado al segundo segmento musical de 1989, hace 25 años, cuando el que escribe contaba con 26 años de edad. En esta ocasión, en el mes de San Valentín, he querido elegir dos muy hermosas baladas, que curiosamente son interpretadas por dos dúos mixtos. 

1.-  AFTER ALL (Cher & Peter Cetera).-  Una de las más hermosas baladas que escuché en 1989 fue “After All”, interpretado por Cher y Peter Cetera. Desde que la escuché por primera vez en Radio Doble Nueve, me encantó por el profundo feeling que emanaba de la canción, desde el intro instrumental y la complementación entre Cher y Peter Cetera en la interpretación del tema. En ese momento sabía que era el tema de una película llamada “Chances Are”, la cual no la ví en su año porque no la exhibieron en los cines limeños. Años después, en 1992, recuerdo que en un lugar donde alquilaban videos, ví que tenían esa película en video original bajo el título de “El Cielo Se Equivocó” y la alquilé, y era una comedia romántica que me gustó muchísimo, y esta canción se llegaba a escuchar en la escena final de la película para luego continuar en los créditos finales del film.

“After All” fue escrito por Dean Pitchford y Tom Snow y producida por Peter Asher. El tema fue incluido en el soundtrack del film “Chances Are”, así como en el álbum “HEART OF STONE” de Cher y “YOU’RE THE INSPIRATION – A COLLECTION” de Peter Cetera. Fue lanzada como single el 21 de Febrero de 1989, llegando al N° 6 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en el U.S. Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, N° 5 en Canadá, N° 24 en Irlanda y N° 50 en USA. Obtuvo una nominación al Oscar como Mejor Canción Original. Es bueno señalar que tanto Peter Cetera como Cher grabaron cada uno su parte de esta canción de manera separada y no hay filmación alguna de ambos cantando el tema, e incluso no se hizo ningún video para promocionar el single. En la ceremonia de la entrega del Oscar en 1990, el tema fue interpretado por Peabo Bryson y Melissa Manchester. 25 años después, vale la pena evocar esta preciosa canción en el blog.

2.-  DON’T KNOW MUCH (Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville).-  Otra balada que tuvo gran suceso hace 25 años, fue “Don’t Know Much”, interpretada por Linda Ronstadt y Aaron Neville. Después de tiempo se volvía a escuchar a Linda Ronstadt, quien en los 70’s tuvo bastante éxito y hasta inicios de los 80’s, para luego incursionar en otro tipo de ritmos. Se trataba de una muy hermosa canción cargada de bastante sentimiento en su bella melodía y su letra, y sobre todo, en la impecable interpretación de Linda y Aaron. Recuerdo que aquí en nuestro medio tuvo bastante difusión en las emisoras de radio locales, sobre todo, en Radio Miraflores y Telestereo. En lo personal, el tema me gustó bastante y fue una de mis favoritas de aquel año 1989.

“Don't Know Much” fue escrita por Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil y Tom Snow, y producida por Peter Asher y Steve Tyrell. Aunque originalmente el tema fue grabado por Barry Mann en su álbum de 1980, con el título “All I Need To Know” y después fue grabado por Bill Medley en 1981 y Bette Midler en 1983 con ese mismo título. Años después, el productor Steve Tyrell les presentó el etma a Linda y Aaron, quienes lo grabaron entre marzo y abril de 1989 en el Skywalker Ranch, en Marin County. Fue lanzada como single el 12 de Setiembre de 1989, llegando al Nª 2 en USA, según Billboard. Además llegó al Nª 1 en USA Adult Contemporary Charts el 28 de Octubre de 1989 por 5 semanas, y fue Nª 1 en Canadá, Irlanda y Australia, Nª 2 en UK, Nª 3 en Austria, Nª 4 en Bélgica y Nueva Zelanda y Nª 6 en Holanda. El tema fue incluido en el álbum de Linda Rondstadt “CRY LIKE A RAINSTORM, HOWL LIKE THE WIND”. En 1990 el tema hizo ganar un Grammy a Linda y Aaron como Mejor Performance Pop por un Dúo o Grupo. Han pasado 25 años de este bello tema y lo recordamos una vez más en este segmento musical.

Este ha sido el segundo segmento musical dedicado a 1989. Espero que estas dos hermosas canciones hayan sido de su agrado. Como siempre, espero sus comentarios.
