MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 20 AÑOS (1994-III)

Llegamos al tercer segmento musical dedicado a 1994, hace 20 años, cuando el que escribe contaba con 31 años de edad. Y siguiendo a tono con el mes del Día Internacional de la Mujer, tenemos dos canciones de dos recordadas cantantes norteamericanas que triunfaron en aquel lejano año 1994.

1.- I’LL REMEMBER (Madonna).- Este es el tercer segmento musical donde volvemos a tener una canción de Madonna. De 1984 tuvimos “Borderline” y de 1989 “Like A Prayer”. Y 1994 no fue la excepción. Aunque en los años previos, Madonna no había recibido buenas críticas debido al lanzamiento de su libro “Sex”, su álbum “EROTICA” y el fracaso del film “Body Of Evidence”. Luego de ello, Warner Bros decidió utilizar a Madonna como intérprete de la canción para la película “With Honors”: “I’ll Remember”. Este tema representó un cambio radical tanto en la imagen como en el estilo musical de Madonna, comparado con lo que había hecho un par de años antes. Realmente la canción es una belleza melódica y en ella Madonna demuestra que cuando quiere crear buena música, lo hace.

“I’ll Remember” fue escrita por Madonna, Patrick Leonard y Richard Page y producida por Madonna y Patrick Leonard. Fue lanzada como single el 8 de Marzo de 1994, llegando al N° 2 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en Canadá, Italia y el US Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 7 en UK y Australia, N° 9 en Suecia, N° 10 en Irlanda, N° 17 en Suiza, N° 25 e Bélgica, N° 28 en Holanda, N° 37 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 40 en Francia y N° 49 en Alemania. En cuanto al video clip del tema, fue dirigido por Alek Keshishian. Han pasado 20 años de esta muy buena canción y es momento de evocarla en el presente post.

2.- BREATHE AGAIN (Toni Braxton).-  Recuerdo mucho que en 1994, se escuchó bastante en el programa “Tú, Yo y Mis Discos” de mi recordada amiga Dianita García, una canción de una nueva cantante norteamericana llamada Toni Braxton: “Breathe Again”. Su suave melodía atrapaba de inmediato por su cadencioso ritmo que era ideal para bailarla suavemente al lado de la persona que uno quiere. Me acuerdo que Dianita me comentaba que la gente llamaba a la radio para pedir la canción y era bien solicitada por sus oyentes. Y en lo personal, fue una de las más bellas baladas que escuché hace 20 años.

“Breathe Again” fue escrita por Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds y producida por Babyface, Daryl Simmons y L. A. Reid. Fue incluida en su álbum debut “TONI BRAXTON” y lanzada como single el 8 de noviembre de 1993, llegando al N° 3 en USA, según Billboard, en 1994. Además fue N° 2 en UK, Australia y Nueva Zelanda, N°4 en el U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 5 en Holanda, N° 7 en Noruega, N° 10 en Irlanda, N° 25 en Suecia y N° 52 en Alemania. En cuanto al video clip del tema, fue dirigido por Randee St. Nicholas y filmado en Inglaterra y en blanco y negro. 20 años después, recordamos ésta muy bella canción.

Este ha sido el tercer segmento musical de 1994. Espero que estos dos buenos temas hayan sido de su agrado. Como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
