MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 15 AÑOS (1999-III)

Como ayer lunes señalé, hoy estamos con el tercer y último segmento musical dedicado al año 1999, hace 15 años, cuando el que escribe tenía 36 años de edad. Y finalizamos este año 99 con dos canciones que sonaron bastante hace 15 años.

1.- FLY AWAY (Lenny Kravitz).- En la década del 90, un artista que destacó nítidamente fue Lenny Kravitz. Con temas como “It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over” y “Are You Gonna Go My Way”, se mantuvo por todo lo alto, y terminó ésta exitosa década con el gran hit “Fly Away” y se convirtió en una de sus canciones más exitosa de su carrera musical. El tema fue escrito y producido por Lenny Kravitz y el 29 de Diciembre de 1998 lanzado como cuarto single del álbum “5”, llegando al N° 1 en UK el 14 de Febrero de 1999 por 1 semana y al N° 12 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en el USA Modern Rock Tracks, N° 3 en Canadá, N° 8 en Australia y Nueva Zelanda y N° 49 en Holanda. Finalmente, este tema le hizo a ganar a Kravitz un Grammy en 1999 por Mejor Performance Rock Masculina. 15 años han pasado y vale la pena detenerse un momento para escuchar esta buena canción.

2.- BELIEVE (Cher).-  Si hubo una canción que fue un mega éxito total en todo el mundo y de manera apabullante, fue “Believe” de Cher. En las radios se escuchó hasta el cansancio, se bailó de manera ineludible en todas las discotecas y su video se difundió bastante en los programas musicales de TV y se convirtió en el más grande éxito de la carrera de Cher, vendiendo 11 millones de copias en todo el mundo. El tema fue escrito originalmente por Brian Higgins, Stuart McLennen, Matthew Gray y Tim Powell, y circuló como un demo durante meses por Warner, ya que nadie la quería. Mark Taylor señaló: “Todos amaban el coro pero no el resto de la canción. Como estábamos escribiendo canciones para Cher, Rob nos preguntó si podíamos ordenarla. Dos de nuestros compositores, Steve Torch y Paul Barry, se involucraron y finalmente vinieron con una canción completa y Rob y Cher estuvieron felices con ella”. Fue grabada entre Junio y Agosto de 1998 en Dreamhouse Studios, en Londres, UK, y producida por Mark Taylor y Brian Rawling . Fue incluida en el álbum “BELIEVE” y lanzada como single el 19 de Octubre de 1998, llegando al N° 1 en UK por 7 semanas y siendo el single más vendido en UK por una artista femenina, con 1’8000,000 copias vendidas. También fue N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, Australia, Bélgica, Canadá, el Canadian Adult Contemporary Chart, Dinamarca, el European Hot 100 Singles, Francia, Alemania, Irlanda, Italia, Holanda, Nueva Zelanda, Noruega, España, Suecia y Suiza, N° 2 en Austria y N° 6 en Finlandia. Finalmente, el video del tema fue dirigido por Nigel Dick. Luego de 15 años, recordamos una vez más este gran hit.

Este ha sido el último segmento musical de 1999 y espero que estos dos hits hayan sido de su agrado. Como siempre, los espero con sus comentarios. Aquí ponemos punto final al año 1999 en el blog y de forma definitiva, ya que si en este 2014 solo hubo tres segmentos, dudo que dentro de cinco años haya más por escarbar.  Para el próximo año, de igual forma tendremos algunos pocos segmentos dedicados al año 2000, con canciones de hace 15 años. Hasta el 2015.
