MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 30 AÑOS (1985-XI)

Llegamos al tercer miércoles del mes de Agosto y hoy toca presentar el segmento musical dedicado al año 1985, hace 30 años, cuando quien escribe contaba con 22 años de edad. Para el día de hoy, he querido elegir dos buenas canciones del recordado grupo norteamericano Survivor.

1.-  THE SEARCH IS OVER (Survivor).-  El próximo martes 1° de Setiembre se cumple un año de la partida de Jimi Jamison, quien fuera vocalista de la recordada banda Survivor. Jimi nos dejó a la edad de 63 años, víctima de un ataque cardiaco, y por ello, he querido recordarlo en este segmento musical de 1985 con dos buenos hits que Survivor impuso en 1985. Tras el enorme éxito que tuvo Survivor con el mega hit “The Eye Of The Tiger”, en 1983 el vocalista Dave Bickler fue sustituido por Jimi Jameson, y el primer hit en figurar con su voz fue “The Moment Of Truth”, tema del film “Karate Kid”. Un año después, alcanzaría un éxito masivo con su álbum “VITAL SIGNS” y con los singles extraídos de dicho álbum. Definitivamente, el tema que más sonó aquí en nuestro medio fue la muy hermosa balada titulada “The Search Is Over”. Desde que la escuché quedé inmediatamente engachado con la canción por su muy bella melodía y la soberbia interpretación de Jimi Jamison, con todo el mayor feeling posible, aunque curiosamente nunca pude ver el video en su año, sino muchos años después por Youtube. El tema fue escrito por Frankie Sullivan y Jim Peterik, y producido por Ron Nevison, siendo lanzado como tercer single del “VITAL SIGNS”, llegando al N° 4 en USA, según Billboard, y al N° 1 en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts por 4 semanas. Al respecto, Jim Peterik, tecladista y guitarrista de la banda, dijo en una entrevista: “No era acerca de mi vida, tanto como un amigo mío que tuvo una novia – realmente un juego de amigos durante sus años de crecimiento – y nunca pensó que podía ser algo más que eso. Estaba mirándolo a él directamente en su cara que esta era la chica de su destino, y él miraba a todos lados para encontrar a esa chica de sus sueños, sólo para regresar a la caja de arena”. 30 años después, es momento de evocar esta sublime balada.

2.-  I CAN’T HOLD BACK (Survivor).-  El primer tema que se escuchó del álbum “VITAL SIGNS”, fue precisamente “I Can’t Hold Back”, cuyo video tuvo cierta difusión en programas musicales como “La Máquina del Rock”. Era un buen tema con bastante ritmo, al estilo de sus previos hits. Y recuerdo bastante el video en donde una fémina muy guapa le hacía ojitos a Jimi Jameson, y mientras se demoraba en decidirse, al final, dejó escapar su oportunidad. El tema fue escrito por Jim Peterik y Frankie Sullivan, y producido por Ron Nevison, siendo lanzado como single a fines de 1984, llegando al N° 13 en USA, según Billboard, y al N° 1 en el USA Album Rock Tracks por 3 semanas. Han pasado tres décadas y vale la pena recordar este buena canción de Survivor y la recordada voz de Jimi Jameson.

Este ha sido el décimo primer segmento musical de 1985. Espero que estos dos muy buenos temas de Survivor hayan sido de su agrado, en donde hemos querido recordar a Jimi Jamison en el primer aniversario de su partida. Como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios. Y para cerrar la trilogía dedicada a Survivor, volvemos a incluir el video de la muy buena canción “High On You”, que desfiló en este segmento de 1985 hace cinco años, y que es mi tema favorito de Survivor.
