MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 20 AÑOS (1995-V)

Llegamos al cuarto y último miércoles del mes de Setiembre y hoy toca presentar el segmento musical bimensual dedicado al año 1995, hace 20 años, cuando quien escribe contaba con 32 años de edad. Para el día de hoy, he querido elegir dos buenos temas de artistas británicos.

1.-  BACK FOR GOOD (Take That).-  Tras el mega éxito mundial del grupo norteamericano vocal New Kids On The Block, Gran Bretaña lanzó su respuesta y fue así como surgió Take That, el cual arrasó en los charts y en ventas en el Reino Unido en la primera mitad de la década del 80. De este grupo surgieron Gary Barlow y Robbie Williams, quienes destacarían en sus carreras solistas. En lo personal, nunca fui fan de este grupo, y en general de los grupos vocales, ya sea masculinos o femeninos. Por ello, fue grande mi sorpresa cuando un día estaba escuchando radio y en eso escuché una muy buena balada y al final, el DJ anunció que el tema de llama “Back For Good” y que lo interpretaba Take That. Me gustó por su muy buen ritmo melódico y aquí en nuestro medio, recuerdo que se escuchó bastante en Telestereo y en menor grado, en otras radios locales. El tema fue escrito por Gary Barlow –quien interpreta el tema- y producido por Chris Porter y Gary Barlow. Fue incluido en el álbum “NOBODY ELSE” y lanzado como single el 27 de Marzo de 1995, llegando al N° 1 en UK el 2 de Abril de 1995 por 4 semanas. También fue N° 1 en Australia, Canadá, Dinamarca, el Eurochart Hot 100, Alemania, Irlanda, Israel, España y Noruega, N° 2 en Bélgica, Italia, Finlandia, Suecia, Suiza y en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 3 en Austria, N° 4 en Japón, N° 6 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 7 en USA, según Billboard, y N° 52 en Corea del Sur. Y en 1996, el tema obtuvo un Brit Awards como Mejor Single Británico. 20 años después, recordamos ésta muy buena canción.

2.-  NO MORE “I LOVE YOU’S” (Annie Lennox).-  En la década del 80, el dúo Eurythmics tuvo una muy destacada participación con una buena cantidad de hits y con la inconfundible voz de Annie Lennox. En 1992 Annie lanzó su primer trabajo como solista, titulado “DIVA”, que junto con el single “Why” alcanzó bastante éxito. Ya para 1995, Annie lanzó su segundo álbum solista llamado “MEDUSA”, que consistía en un álbum de covers, y en donde el primer single fue “No More ‘I Love You’s’”, una muy hermosa balada cantada brillantemente por Annie. El tema fue escrito por Joseph Hughes y David Freeman y originalmente lanzado por su banda, The Lover Speaks, en 1986. En Enero de 1994 fue grabado por Annie Lennox para su nuevo álbum y fue producido por Stephen Lipson. Fue lanzada como single el 6 de Febrero de 1995, llegando al N° 2 en UK. Además, fue N° 1 en Canadá, Italia y España, N° 2 en Irlanda y Escocia, N° 10 en el U.S. Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, N°11 en Austria, N° 12 en Noruega, N° 13 en Francia, N° 14 en Suiza, N° 15 en Suecia, N° 16 en Australia, N° 17 en Holanda, N° 19 en Bélgica, N° 22 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 23 en USA, según Billboard, y N° 27 en Alemania. El tema le hizo ganar a Annie Lennox un Grammy como Mejor Performance Vocal Pop Femenina, derrotando a las favoritas Mariah Carey, Vanessa Williams, Dionne Farris y Bonnie Raitt. Han transcurrido 20 años de este buen cover y es momento de recordarlo.

Este ha sido el cuarto segmento musical de 1995. Espero que estas dos buenas canciones hayan sido de su agrado. Como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
