MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 30 AÑOS (1985-XIV)

Llegamos al tercer miércoles del mes de Noviembre y corresponde presentar el segmento musical dedicado al año 1985, hace 30 años, cuando quien escribe tenía 22 años de edad. En esta oportunidad, tenemos dos buenos temas que sonaron regular en las radios locales.

1.-  CHERISH (Kool & The Gang).-  Una de las más hermosas baladas de 1985 y que me encantó desde la primera vez que la escuché fue “Cherish” del grupo norteamericano Kool & The Gang, que destacó por su música disco bailable. Su melodía era bellísima y tenía un estilo bastante refrescante y relajante, cargada de un tremendo feeling que atrapaba apenas uno la escuchaba. Aquí en nuestro medio, fue difundida en las diferentes emisoras de radio locales y su video fue visto en los programas musicales de TV en ese momento. El tema fue escrito por Ronald Bell, James "J.T." Taylor y Kool & The Gang, y producido por Kool and the Gang, Jim Bonnefond y Ronald Bell. Fue lanzado como tercer single del álbum “EMERGENCY” el 10 de Mayo de 1985, llegando al N° 2 en USA, según Billboard, en Setiembre de 1985, por 3 semanas. Además fue N° 1 en Canadá, Irlanda y en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts por 6 semanas, N° 2 en Noruega y Suiza, N° 3 en Austria, Bélgica y Holanda, N° 4 en UK y Nueva Zelanda, N° 5 en Alemania, N° 8 en Australia, N° 11 en Francia y N° 19 en Suecia. 30 años después, es momento de recordar ésta muy bella canción.

2.-  RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT (Debarge).-  Definitivamente uno de los temas bailables que más me gustó en la década del 80, fue “Rhythm of the Night” de Debarge. Su estilo era bastante rítmico y contagiante, que generaba el efecto de salir a bailarla apenas uno escuchaba los primeros acordes del tema. Pero era un ritmo con base melódica y destacaba además la interpretación de El Debarge. La canción fue escrita por Diane Warren –compositora de recordados hits como “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, “Because You Loved Me”, “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”, “If I Could Turn Back Time” y “Unbreak My Heart”, entre otros- y producida por Richard Perry. Fue lanzada como single el 14 de Febrero de 1985, y su lanzamiento coincidió con el estreno del film de la Motown, “The Last Dragon”, que incluía este tema en su banda sonora, llegando al N° 3 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en el U.S. Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, N° 3 en Canadá, Nueva Zelanda, N° 4 en UK y Holanda, N° 5 en Irlanda, N° 7 en Bélgica, N° 9 en Australia, N° 19 en Alemania, N° 24 en Suiza y N° 50 en Francia.  Han transcurrido tres décadas y vale la pena evocar este gran tema bailable.

Este ha sido el décimo cuarto segmento musical de 1985. Espero que estos dos muy buenos temas hayan sido de su agrado. Como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
