MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 20 AÑOS (1995-VI)

Llegamos al cuarto miércoles del mes de Diciembre y hoy toca presentar el último segmento musical dedicado al año 1995, hace 20 años, cuando quien escribe tenía 32 años de edad. Y para cerrar este año 2015, he querido elegir dos buenos temas de artistas norteamericanos.

1.-  EARTH SONG (Michael Jackson).-  Hace 20 años, Michael Jackson retornó a los primeros planos de popularidad en todo el mundo y tras el éxito alcanzado por el single “You Are Not Alone”, el siguiente paso fue lanzar el gran tema “Earth Song”, cuya letra abordaba directamente el tema del medio ambiente y el bienestar de los animales. Recuerdo mucho que aquí en nuestro medio, fue bastante difundida por mi recordada amiga Diana García en su programa “Tú, Yo y Mis Discos” en Telestereo, y me comentaba que era bien solicitada por sus fieles oyentes. El tema fue escrito por Michael Jackson y producido por Michael Jackson, David Foster y Bill Bottrell, y originalmente fue grabado para el álbum “DANGEROUS”, pero al final no fue incluido. Fue incluido en el recopilatorio “HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I” y lanzado como tercer single el 27 de Noviembre de 1995, llegando al N° 1 en UK por 6 semanas, convirtiéndose en su single más vendido en UK, con 1.16 millones de copias vendidas. Además fue N° 1 en Alemania, Italia, Noruega, España, Suecia y Suiza, N° 2 en Holanda, Francia e Irlanda, N° 3 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 15 en Australia y N° 40 en Canadá. No fue lanzada como single en USA. En cuanto al video clip del tema, fue dirigido por Nick Brandt y se mostraban imágenes de crueldad animal, deforestación, polución, pobreza y guerra. 20 años después, es momento de recordar esta gran canción, cuyo mensaje continúa tan vigente como hace dos décadas.

2.-  GANGSTA’S PARADISE (Coolio).-  La gente que me conoce sabe que me disgusta enormemente el género musical del rap. Sencillamente no soporto cuando alguien rapea en un tema y en muchos casos, en vez de sobresalir la melodía o ritmo de una canción, lo que “destaca” son los gritos desaforados de los “cantantes” raperos. Pero, hay excepciones a la regla, y cuando se da el caso de que un rapeo viene a ser parte complementaria del ritmo de un tema musical, el resultado puede llegar a ser bastante interesante y hasta incluso, agradable al oído. Y eso en mi opinión muy personal, sucede con el tema “Gangsta's Paradise” del cantante rapero Coolio. Su ritmo es bastante contagiante y la interpretación de Coolio se alinea bien al estilo musical de la canción. El tema fue escrito por Coolio, Doug Rasheed, Larry Sanders y Stevie Wonder y precisamente, samplea el tema “Pastime Paradise” de Stevie Wonder, utilizando la melodía, pero con una diferente orquestación de la misma música. Fue producido por Doug Rasheed y fue incluido en el álbum “GANGSTA’S PARADISE” de Coolio, y en el soundtrack del film “Dangerous Minds”, protagonizado por Michelle Pfeiffer. Además contó con la participación del cantante L.V. en el coro del tema. Fue lanzado como single el 8 de Agosto de 1995, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, vendiendo 5 millones de copias en USA y convirtiéndose en el disco más vendido en USA en 1995. Además fue N° 1 en UK, Australia, Austria, Bélgica, Dinamarca, en el Eurochart Hot 100, Finlandia, Francia, Alemania, Irlanda, Italia, Holanda, Nueva Zelanda, Noruega, Suecia y Suiza, N° 20 en España y N° 29 en Canadá. Finalmente, en cuanto al video clip del tema, fue dirigido por Antoine Fuqua, de Propaganda Films, y contó con la presencia de Michelle Pfeiffer, interpretando a su personaje en el film. Han transcurrido 20 años, y vale la pena recordar esta buena canción, que en lo personal, es el único tema rapeado que ha llegado a gustarme.

Este ha sido el último segmento musical correspondiente a 1995. Espero que estas buenas canciones hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios. De esta forma, cerramos de manera definitiva este año 1995 en el blog y despedimos este año musical como lo fue 1995. Ha sido un placer enorme e inmenso, haber revivido este año 1995 de manera mensual. Cuando llegue el 2020 ya no retornará esta sección musical, debido a que creo haber presentado prácticamente todas mis canciones favoritas de 1995. A partir de enero del 2016, estaremos dándole nuevamente la bienvenida al año 1996 en este segmento musical de "Hace 20 Años", con algunos temas que merecen ser posteados en el blog. Hasta entonces.
