MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 25 AÑOS (1991-I)

Llegamos al último miércoles del mes de Febrero, y hoy toca presentarte el primer segmento musical de 1991, hace 25 años, cuando el que escribe tenía 28 años. Hace cinco años, tuvimos buena cantidad de canciones de 1991 en la sección “Hace 20 Años”, y en este 2016, me enfocaré en diversos álbumes de grupos y artistas y este segmento irá de manera bimensual. Y para comenzar bien, hoy he querido compartir contigo dos muy buenas canciones del álbum “JOYRIDE” del dúo sueco Roxette. 

1.-  JOYRIDE (Roxette).-  En 1989 emergió en el panorama musical un dúo sueco llamado Roxette, conformado por Per Gessle y Marie Fredriksson, y llegaron a la cima con su álbum “LOOK SHARP!” y particularmente, con los hits “The Look” y “Dresses For Success”. En 1990 triunfaron con el tema principal del film “Pretty Woman”, la bella balada “It Must Have Been Love”, y la expectativa era enorme por el que sería su siguiente paso musical. Y en 1991, repitieron  el plato con el álbum “JOYRIDE”, y en especial, con el buen tema “Joyride”, que se convirtió en un gran hit en todo el mundo, y también nuestro medio, ya que sonó con bastante frecuencia en las diferentes emisoras de radio locales. No era de extrañar porque tenía un ritmo bastante pegajoso y manteniendo la esencia de su estilo musical de su anterior trabajo musical. El tema fue escrito por Per Gessle y producido por Clarence Öfwerman y fue lanzado como single principal del “JOYRIDE” el 27 de Febrero de 1991, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, por una semana. Además fue N° 1 en Australia, Austria, Bélgica, Canadá, Holanda, el European Hot 100 Singles, Alemania, Noruega, Suiza y Suecia, N° 3 en Nueva Zelanda y Polonia, N° 4 en UK e Italia, N° 9 en Irlanda, N° 21 en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts y N° 39 en Francia. En entrevista, Per Gessle manifestó que tomó la idea para la línea inicial del tema de su novia –hoy esposa-, quien le había dejado una nota en su piano que decía, “Hello, you fool, I love you”. Finalmente, en el cuadernillo del recopilatorio “DON’T BORE US, GET TO THE CHORUS!”, Gessle llamó al tema como el “Magical Mistery Tour de Roxette” y dijo que tomó el título de la canción de una entrevista a Paul McCartney, en donde dijo que escribir canciones con John Lennon era un “long joyride” -o un largo paseo.  25 años después, es momento de recordar esta gran canción de Roxette.

2.-  SPENDING MY TIME (Roxette).- Dentro del álbum “JOYRIDE”, había también una muy hermosa balada llamada “Spending My Time”, fiel al estilo de hits como “Listen To Your Heart”, o “It Must Have Been Love”. Recuerdo mucho que desde que la escuché por primera vez, me fascinó la canción por su muy bella melodía y sobre todo, por su enorme feeling y la maravillosa interpretación de Marie Fredriksson. El tema fue escrito por Per Gessle y Mats Persson, y producido por Clarence Öfwerman y lanzado como cuarto single del “JOYRIDE”, llegando al N° 32 en USA, según Bilboard. Además fue N° 9 en Alemania e Italia, N° 11 en Bélgica y Suecia, N° 15 en Suiza, N° 16 en Australia y Austria, N° 20 en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts y N° 31 en Nueva Zelanda. Adicionalmente, se grabó una versión en español cantada por el mismo dúo y titulada “Un Día Sin Ti”. Ha pasado un cuarto de siglo y vale la pena escuchar ésta muy hermosa canción. Disfrútala.
