HACE 35 AÑOS (1981-VIII)

Llegamos al segundo miércoles del mes de Agosto, y hoy me toca presentarte el segmento musical de 1981, hace 35 años. En esta oportunidad, he querido elegir para tí dos muy buenas canciones del álbum “4” de la banda angloamericana Foreigner.

1.-  WAITING FOR A GIRL LIKE YOU (Foreigner).-  Tras el éxito alcanzado por el álbum “HEAD GAMES”, el grupo Foreigner entró a la nueva década del 80 con pie derecho con el álbum “4” y en especial, con el gran tema “Urgent”. Luego la escalada exitosa seguiría con la muy hermosa canción “Waiting For A Girl Like You”. Con este single, la banda dio un giro en su estilo rockero y duro, hacia un sonido mucho más pausado y melódico, al lanzar por primera vez como single una balada. Recuerdo que aquí en nuestro medio, el tema sonó harto en las diferentes emisoras locales y su video se vio bastante en “Disco Club”. El tema fue escrito por Mick Jones y Lou Gramm y producido por Robert John "Mutt" Lange y Mick Jones. Fue lanzado como single en Octubre de 1981, llegando al N° 2 en USA por 10 semanas –detrás de “Physical” de Olivia Newton-John-, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en el USA Album Rock Tracks, N° 2 en Canadá, N° 3 en Australia, N° 5 en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 8 en UK, N° 16 en Nueva Zelanda y N° 29 en Alemania. Y contó con la participación de Thomas Dolby en el sintetizador. 35 años después, es momento de recordar esta muy bella balada. Disfrútala.

2.-  JUKEBOX HERO (Foreigner).-  Luego del enorme éxito que obtuvieron sus dos primeros singles del “4”, Foreigner lanzó su siguiente single, el cual no tuvo la misma suerte de sus antecesores, y fue medianamente difundida aquí, sobre todo en Radio Doble Nueve. La canción fue escrita por Lou Gramm y Mick Jones y producida por Robert John “Mutt” Lange. Fue lanzada como single en Enero de 1982, llegando al N° 26 en USA, según Billboard. En una entrevista para “Songfacts”, Mick Jones manifestó que el tema estuvo inspirado por un fan que estuvo esperando afuera de un concierto por cinco horas y en la lluvia. Jones, impresionado por esa dedicación, decidió llevarlo y darle una oportunidad de que echar un vistazo a lo que sucedía detrás de escena en un show. Luego de 35 años, vale la pena escuchar este buen tema. Disfrútalo.
