Llegamos al primer miércoles de Agosto. Es momento de presentarte
el segmento musical dedicado al año 1976, hace 40 años, cuando el que escribe contaba
con 13 años de edad. En esta ocasión, he querido elegir dos buenas canciones de
la recordada banda norteamericana Steve Miller Band, que triunfaron hace cuatro
décadas.
1.- ROCK’N ME (Steve
Miller Band).- Uno de los temas que sonó regular hace 40 años en las radios
locales en nuestro medio, fue “Rock’n Me”
de la banda Steve Miller Band. Tenía un muy buen ritmo alineado al estilo pop y
rock, bien típico de la década del 70. El tema fue escrito y producido por
Steve Miller y fue grabado en 1976 en los estudios CBS en San Francisco,
California. Fue lanzado como segundo single del álbum “FLY LIKE AN EAGLE”,
llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, por una semana. Además fue N° 1 en
Canadá, N° 11 en UK, N° 22 en Holanda, N° 23 en Nueva Zelanda y N° 44 en
Alemania. Curiosamente, en USA fue lanzado bajo los créditos de Steve Miller. Al
respecto, Miller ha reconocido que ciertos elementos del tema, en particular el
intro, fue como un guiño al clásico “All Right Now” de Free, y señaló: “Yeah, es una tachuela en la pared de Paul
Kossoff. Di un concierto en los dos años que estuve fuera del camino. Fui a
Londres y toqué con Pink Floyd … era un gran show al aire libre así que
necesitamos un gran número de rock and roll que realmente fuera a excitar a
todos. Solo lo uní y no pensé mucho acerca de eso”. Finalmente, el tema es cantado desde el punto
de vista de alguien que viaja frecuentemente mientras tiene una actitud
positiva y optimista. 40 años después,
siempre hay motivo para disfrutar de esta buena canción. Disfrútala.

2.- FLY LIKE AN
EAGLE (Steve Miller Band).- Del exitoso álbum “FLY LIKE AN EAGLE”, el single principal fue justamente la
canción que le da título al álbum, “Fly
Like An Eagle”. Su estilo brindaba una atmósfera algo etérea como haciendo
honor al título del tema, al ritmo del vuelo de un ave. La canción fue escrita
y producida por Steve Miller y lanzada como single en Diciembre de 1976,
llegando al N° 2 en USA, según Billboard. Además, fue N° 2 en Canadá y N° 21 en
Holanda. Han transcurrido cuatro décadas y vale la pena recordar este buen
