Y llegamos a la semana de la Navidad. Estamos a 3 días de la Nochebuena y a 4 de la Navidad, fiesta muy especial en el mundo. Y en este blog no deseo pasar esta fecha por alto y quiero preparar el ambiente navideño compartiendo mis canciones navideñas favoritas. Y a partir de hoy hasta el mismo jueves 24 incluiré breves segmentos musicales con dos o tres temas vinculados a la Navidad y grabado por los grupos y artistas que nos gustan. Y hoy lunes 21, comenzaré con temas navideños vinculados al grupo más gr
ande de la historia: THE BEATLES. Mañana le tocaré el turno a 3 cantantes británicos conocidos: Elton John, Cliff Richard y George Michael; el miércoles a dos de los mejores exponente del Glam Rock en la 1º mitad de los 70's: Slade y Gary Glitter y el 24, cierro estos segmentos con mis dos grupos favoritos: QUEEN y THE MOODY BLUES. Pero arranquemos hoy con los 4 grandes de Liverpool.
1.- WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME (Paul Mc Cartney).- Quien no ha escuchado este hermoso tema en las últimas 3 décadas en algún programa musical ya sea en radio o en TV? La primera vez que la ví y escuché fue en "Disco Club" y me gustó instantáneamente, tanto la canción como el video que contribuía enormemente a sentir el ambiente navideño. Lanzado como single en 1979, es uno de los temas solistas de McCartney más conocidos y es infaltable en las épocas navideñas. La canción fue agregada años después como un bonus track en el relanzamiento del CD de album de Wings "BACK TO THE EGG". Aunque el single no rankeó en USA, según Billboard, llegó al Nº 6 en el UK Singles Chart. El video fue filmado en el Fountain Inn en Ashurst, West Sussex.

2.- HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER) (John Lennon).- Otro Beatle con un tema navideño, y que sin duda constituye el single navideño más exitoso de un Beatle. Debo admitir que la escuché por primera vez, en 1981, tiempo después de la muerte de John Lennon y me gustó muchísimo. El tema es cantado por John Lennon, Yoko Ono y The Plastic Ono Band y fue grabado en Record Plant Studios en New York City en Octubre de 1971, con la ayuda del productor Phil Spector. Los niños que cantan en el coro fueron del Harlem Community Choir. Aunqu ela canción era canción de protesta contra la guerra de Vietnam, se convirtió en un tema navideño standard y aparece en diversos albums navideños.El disco comienza con un susurro navideño lejano de John y Yoko a sus hijos: Yoko susurra "Happy Christmas, Kyoko", y John dice "Happy Christmas, Julian". La letra del album de 1982 "The John Lennon Collection" erróneamente consignó como "Happy Christmas, Yoko. Happy Christmas, John". El single fue lanzado en USA el 6 de Diciembre de 1971, pero nunca rankeó en el Billboard Hot 100 charts; en UK su lanzamiento fue pospuesto hasta noviembre del siguiente año y llegó al Nº 4 en el UK Singles Chart. Luego de la muerte de John, el tema fue relanzado en UK el 20 de Diciembre de 1980 y llegó al Nº 3.

3.- CHRISTMAS TIME (IS HERE AGAIN) (The Beatles).- Y cerramos esta secuencia musical navideña con John, Paul, George y Ringo. Atribuida autoralmennte a Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starkey, fue grabada en 1967 y fue lanzada solo para los miembros del Beatles Fan Club, quienes los encargaron por correo. Fue incluida más adelante en la compilación de 1970 "The Beatles' Christmas Album" (el cual también estuvo disponible exclusivamente a los miembros del fan club. La canción fue oficialmente lanzada en 1995 en el single "Free as a Bird", y fue editado de su duración original de 6:17 a una versión editada de 3:03. El tema cierra con un saludo navideño de cada uno de los 4 miembros del grupo. Al final, Auld Lang Syne tocó el órgano mientras Lennon lee uno de sus poemas en son de broma.

Bueno, Luchito, me has dado mi regalo de Navidad adelantado, jeje. Cuando vi el subject de tu mail pensé inmediatamente en las canciones q aquí mencionas, la de Paul y la de John, jaja, vaya q me leiste la mente. Realmente son temas excelentes, y en ambos queda muy bien reflejado el carácter de cada uno. La canción de Paul refleja un ambiente familiar, q es el tipo de vida que siempre le gustó, pasar el tiempo con la esposa y los hijos, siempre dio la imagen de un tipo que llevaba una vida muy familiar pero vivía de la música, disfrutando de las cosas sencillas que la vida nos da.
ResponderEliminarEl tema de John lo muestra como era, un tipo consciente, preocupado por hacer despertar a los demás, por lograr que la gente comparta un sentimiento de unidad como seres humanos, parte del mismo mundo, del mismo universo.
Ese tema de Paul, recuerdo que lo escuchaba desde pequeña; el tema es del 71 como mencionas, yo nací en el 73, y recuerdo que siempre lo pasaban, siempre me gustó mucho. El tema de John lo vine a escuchar mucho después, cuando ya compartíamos contigo las conversaciones musicales que siempre disfruté.
Excelente post, aunq tengo aún una duda sobre una línea de la canción de John, porque escucho otra cosa al oir el tema... dice "the world is so wrong"? o "the road is so long"? porque esto último es más bien lo que escucho, no me suena el "wrong" por ningún lado.

ResponderEliminarAmbos son dos de los mejores temas navideños que se hayan creado en los últimos 50 años, y como bien dice, cada una refleja la personalidad musical de su autor. La de Paul es del 79 y la de John del 71. Y quise empezar estos 4 breves segmentos con los Beatles, y hasta el 24 postearé sobre aquellos temas navideños británicos de mi predilección.

John Lennon no hizo una canción "Navideña" por sí, sino una canción anti-guerra. Mientras Nixon daba la orden, justificada según él, de bombardear Cambodia en la Navidad del 72, Lennon publicaba con Yoko esta canción y un afiche blanco con las letras negras: "Happy Xmas War is Over" - If you want it. El verdadero espíritu de la Navidad no está en un gorrito de Papá Noel ni ver a qué hora está listo el pavo, sino a qué hora terminamos con la violencia y logramos la paz en el mundo; teniendo nuestras propias diferencias.

ResponderEliminarEs cierto, John Lennon escribió un tema de protesta haciendo alusión a la Navidad y que esta debería suceder sin tanto problema de violencia en el mundo. Su intención fue crear conciencia y lo logró.
Estoy de acuerdo con tu último comentario. Navidad es más que regalos, pavo y villancicos. Es vivir en un mundo con respeto y tolerancia a las diferencias.
