MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 30 AÑOS (1986-IV)

La semana pasada tuvimos el segmento musical de 1986, hace 30 años, y como seguimos en el mes de la Mujer, hoy continuamos con este buen año musical. Para el día de hoy, he querido escoger dos buenas canciones de dos recordadas cantantes norteamericanas.  

1.-  TRUE COLORS (Cyndi Lauper).-  Luego del apabullante mega éxito que Cyndi Lauper obtuvo con su álbum debut “SHE’S SO UNUSUAL”, y con los hits “Girls Just Want To Have Fun”, “Time After Time”, “She Bop” y “All Through The Night”, se generó bastante expectativa por su siguiente paso musical. Recuerdo que en esos años 1983 y 1984, ella y Madonna se disputaban las preferencias entre los fans. Y en 1986, Cyndi retornó al panorama musical con un nuevo álbum y un nuevo single, “True Colors”, con el cual volvió a los primeros lugares en los charts. Era una balada bastante bella con una melodía sublime que llegaba al alma –un poco al estilo de “Time After Time”, pero con un ritmo melódico mucho más suave. Recuerdo que aquí en nuestro medio, tuvo regular difusión en las diversas emisoras, principalmente en Doble Nueve, pero no al mismo nivel que en 1984. La canción fue escrita por Tom Kelly y Billy Steinberg y originalmente, el dúo le ofreció la canción a Anne Murray, quien declinó, y luego fue entregado a Cyndi. El demo del tema era una especie de balada gosepl basada en el piano, pero Cyndi desmanteló esos tipos de arreglos tradicionales y apareció con algo totalmente diferente y así quedó la canción. Fue producida por Cyndi Lauper y Lennie Petze. Fue lanzada como primer single del álbum “TRUE COLORS” el 25 de Agosto de 1986, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, el 25 de Octubre de 1986 por 2 semanas. Además fue N° 1 en Canadá, N° 3 en Australia, N° 4 en Italia y Suecia, N° 5 en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 6 Alemania e Irlanda, N° 8 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 10 en Noruega, N° 12 en UK y Austria, N° 14 en Holanda, N° 17 en Suiza, N° 18 en Alemania, N° 49 en Francia y N° 59 en Japón. 30 años después, es momento de compartir contigo esta hermosa canción. 2.-  THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL (Whitney Houston).-  Sin llegar a ser fan a ultranza de Whitney Houston, pero sí hay canciones suyas que me han gustado, particularmente la muy hermosa canción “Greatest Love Of All”. Desde que la escuché, me encantó por el gran feeling que emanaba del tema y por la maravillosa interpretación de Whitney. El tema fue escrito por Michael Masser y Linda Creed y originalmente fue grabado en 1977 por George Benson con el título “The Greatest Love of All”. Ocho años después, fue grabado por Whitney Houston para su álbum debut “WHITNEY HOUSTON”, y definitivamente, se hizo más conocido que la versión original. Fue lanzado como single el 18 de Marzo de 1986, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, por 3 semanas. Además fue N° 1 en Australia, Canadá y en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 4 en Irlanda, N° 8 en UK, N° 12 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 13 en Italia, N° 14 en Suecia, N° 16 en Finlandia,  N° 20 en Suiza, N° 24 en Holanda, N° 25 en Austria y N° 30 en Alemania. Han transcurrido tres décadas y siempre es grato de recordar una bella canción. Disfrútala.
