HACE 30 AÑOS (1986-XIV)

Continuamos con el segmento musical de 1986 de este mes de Agosto, hace 30 años, que iniciamos ayer y para el día de hoy, he querido escoger para ti una trilogía de buenos temas de película interpretados por cantantes norteamericanos.

1.-  GLORY OF LOVE (Peter Cetera).-  Muchos recordamos en la década del 80 la saga de “Karate Kid” y en particular, sus temas musicales. En el primer film, el tema elegido fue “The Moment Of Truth” de Survivor, y para la secuela, “The Karate Kid, Part II”, la canción principal estuvo a cargo de Peter Cetera y se tituló “Glory Of Love” y era una balada muy bella llena de harto sentimiento. Cetera fue vocalista de la banda Chicago y en 1985, dejó el grupo para emprender una carrera solista. El tema fue escrito por Peter Cetera, Davis Foster y Diane Nini –en ese entonces, esposa de Cetera- y originalmente, Cetera la escribió para el film “Rocky IV”, pero fue desechado por United Artists. Luego de ello, fue utilizada para el film “The Karate Kid, Part II” y fue producido por Michael Omartian. Fue incluida también en el álbum “SOLITUDE/SOLITAIRE” y lanzada como single, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Bilboard, el 2 de Agosto de 1986, por 2 semanas. Además fue N° 1 en USA Adult Contemporary Charts por 5 semanas y N° 3 en UK. 30 años después, siempre es grato recordar esta bella canción. Disfrútala.

2.-  DANGER ZONE (Kenny Loggins).- Uno de los films más taquilleros en 1986 fue sin duda alguna, “Top Gun”, protagonizada por un joven Tom Cruise. Y un plus adicional fue su exitosa banda sonora, entre los que destacaba el gran hit “Take My Breath Away” de Berlin. Pero otro tema que también tuvo éxito y buena difusión fue “Danger Zone” de Kenny Loggins, un tema con bastante ritmo y un estilo bien ochentero. El tema fue escrito por Giorgio Moroder y Tom Whitlock y en principio, los productores de “Top Gun”, Jerry Bruckheimer y Don Simpson tenían más de 300 canciones para utilizar en el film. Luego de chequear una que pudiera utilizarse en las escenas iniciales, ninguna los dejó satisfechos y Bruckheimer le pidió a Moroder componer algo. Con la ayuda del letrista Tom Whitlock, escribió “Danger Zone” y grabaron un demo, el cual fue aprobado por los productores, y Columbia Records le pidió a Moroder que “Danger Zone” fue grabada por algún artista que estuviera bajo ese sello discográfico. Originalmente, pensaron en el grupo Toto para grabar el tema, pero debido a conflictos legales entre los productores del film y los abogados de la banda, al final nada se concretó. Luego acudieron a Bryan Adams, quien no aceptó porque sentía que el film glorificaba la guerra y no quería que ninguna de sus canciones estuvieran vinculadas a ello. También el grupo REO Speedwagon fue solicitado para grabar el tema, pero declinaron porque no les permitieron contribuir con algunas de sus composiciones en la banda sonora. Finalmente, los productores del film acordaron que el tema fuera interpretado por Kenny Loggins y fue grabado en Enero de 1986 y producido por Giorgio Moroder. Fue lanzado como single el 13 de Mayo de 1986, llegando al N° 2 en USA, según Billboard. Además, fue N° 6 en Suiza, N° 7 en Canadá y en el USA Album Rock Tracks, N° 10 en Alemania, N° 12 en Nueva Zelanda y N° 45 en UK. Han pasado ya tres décadas y vale la pena escuchar este buen tema. 3.-  WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH GETS GOING’ (Billy Ocean).- Otro film que alcanzó un gran éxito en taquilla fue la secuela del film “Romancing The Stone”, que fue protagonizada por Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner y Danny DeVito, y que se tituló “The Jewel Of The Nile”, el cual tuvo como tema principal, la canción “When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going”, interpretado por el británico Billy Ocean. La canción fue escrita por Wayne Anton Brathwaite, Barry James Eastmond, Mutt Lange y Billy Ocean y producida por Barry Eastmond y Wayne Brathwaite. Fue lanzada como single el 15 de Noviembre de 1985 en USA y en Enero de 1986 en UK, llegando al N° 1 en UK por 4 semanas en Febrero de 1986 y al N° 2 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en Australia, Bélgica, Holanda, Irlanda, Noruega y Canadá, N° 2 en Alemania, España, Suecia y en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts, N° 3 en Nueva Zelanda, N° 6 en Francia y N° 8 en Austria. Pero si hubo algo que contribuyó al gran éxito del tema fue su video, muy bien realizado y bastante divertido, en donde aparecen los tres protagonistas del film –Douglas, Turner y DeVito-, vestidos de blanco y haciendo los coros en el tema. Luego de 30 años, es momento de compartir esta buena canción y sobre todo, este muy ocurrente video. Disfrútalo.
