MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 25 AÑOS (1989-XVI)

Y llegamos al último segmento musical dedicado al año 1989, hace 25 años, cuando quien escribe contaba con 26 años de edad. A lo largo de este 2014, han desfilado 16 segmentos musicales con lo mejor de 1989 y hoy ponemos punto final con tres buenas canciones con tres recordados cantantes británicos.

1.- PRETENDING (Eric Clapton).- Tras transitar sin mucho éxito en la década del 80, además de luchar contra su adicción al alcohol, en 1989, Eric Clapton retornó triunfalmente en el mundo de la música con el álbum “JOURNEYMAN”, con temas de muy buen nivel, con un sonido propio de los 80’s, pero con buenos temas blues. Y dentro de este álbum, destacó nítidamente la canción “Pretending”, de muy buen nivel y con harta fuerza y energía y con el sonido distintivo de la guitarra del gran Clapton. El tema fue escrito por Jerry Lynn Williams y producido por Jill Dell'Abate & Russ Titelman, siendo lanzado como single a fines de 1989 y llegando al N° 55 en USA, según Billboard, y al N° 1 en el USA Album Rock Tracks por 5 semanas. 25 años han pasado y es momento de volver a escuchar esta muy buena canción.

2.- EVERLASTING LOVE (Howard Jones).- A mediados de la década del 80, el británico Howard Jones tuvo éxito con temas como “Things Can Only Get Better” y “No One Is To Blame”. Para 1989, alcanzó primeros planos de popularidad con el tema “Everlasting Love”, una muy agradable balaba con un ritmo melódico bastante agradable y un video bien ocurrente en donde se veían a dos momias transitando por las calles y demostrándose su amor. El tema fue escrito por Howard Jones y producido por Chris Hughes, Ross Cullum y Ian Stanley. Fue incluido en el álbum “CROSS THAT LINE” y lanzada como single el 4 de Marzo de 1989, llegando al N° 12 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en el USA Adult Contemporary Charts por 2 semanas, N° 19 en el USA Modern Rock Tracks y N° 62 en UK. 25 años después, seguimos recordando esta buena canción.

3.- VERONICA (Elvis Costello).-  Una de las canciones que gozó de mis preferencias hace 25 años, fue el tema “Veronica” de Elvis Costello. La escuché primero en Doble Nueve, y me gustaba su estilo fresco y su ritmo bastante agradable de escuchar. Y no era para menos, ya que el tema fue escrito por Elvis Costello y Paul McCartney. Fue producido por Elvis Costello, Kevin Killen y T-Bone Burnett e incluido en el álbum “SPIKE”, siendo lanzada como single y llegando al N° 19 en USA, según Billboard, y al N° 31 en UK. Además fue N° 1 en el USA Modern Rock Tracks, N° 10 en el USA Album Rock Tracks y N° 27 en Australia. En el tema figuraba Paul McCartney en el bajo y la letra del tema se enfoca en una mujer mayor que ha experimentado una severa pérdida de la memoria, en donde Elvis Costello se inspiró en su abuela, quien sufría de Alzheimer. En video clip del tema ganó un MTV Video Music Award como Mejor Video de Artista Masculino. Ha pasado un cuarto de siglo, y vale la pena evocar este muy grato tema.

Este ha sido el décimo sexto y último segmento musical correspondiente a 1989. Espero que estas tres buenas canciones hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios. No sé si en el 2019 retornará esta sección musical con el segmento de “Hace 30 Años”, porque tanto en este 2014 como en el 2009, han desfilado una buena cantidad de canciones de 1989 y realmente es poco lo que se ha quedado sin postear. Cuando llegue el 2019, ya se verá. Y a partir de enero del 2015, estaremos dándole nuevamente la bienvenida al año 1990 en este segmento musical de "Hace 25 Años". Ya en el 2010, ya tuvimos algunos temas que fueron posteados en la sección “Hace 20 Años” y a partir del 2015, tendremos varios segmentos musicales dedicados a 1990 con temas que merecen ser posteados en el blog y que irán cada dos meses. Tendremos temas de grupos o artistas, como por ejemplo Phil Collins, INXS, Midnight Oil, The Sundays, Billy Idol y Robert Plant, entre otros. Será hasta el miércoles 28 de enero del 2015.
