MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 25 AÑOS (1990-II)

Llegamos al cuarto miércoles de Abril y en esta ocasión, toca presentar la sección musical de 1990, hace 25 años, cuando quien escribe contaba con 27 años de edad. Hoy tenemos dos muy buenas canciones que destacaron hace un cuarto de siglo.

1.- HERE WHERE THE STORY ENDS (The Sundays).- Una de las más bellas canciones de 1990 fue, sin duda alguna, “Here’s Where The Story Ends” del grupo británico de rock alternativo The Sundays. Recuerdo que escuché por primera vez este tema en Radio Doble Nueve, y me gustó muchísimo por su ritmo melódico, su instrumentación y sobre todo, por la suave y melodiosa voz e impecable interpretación de su vocalista, Harriet Wheeler. Aquí fue un tema que no tuvo difusión masiva, solo en Doble Nueve, pero me bastó escucharla pocas veces para engancharme con este bello tema. La canción fue escrita por David Gavurin y Harriet Wheeler y producida por The Sundays y Ray Shulman. Fue lanzada como segundo single del álbum “READING, WRITING AND ARITHMETIC”, llegando al N° 1 en el USA Modern Rock Tracks por una semana. No fue lanzada como single en UK por el colapso de su sello Rough Trade Records. 25 años después, es momento de recordar ésta muy buena canción.

2.-  THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES (Sinead O’Connor).- En 1990, la irlandesa Sinead O’Connor triunfó en todo el mundo con el single “Nothing Compares 2U”. Luego del éxito de esta canción, su siguiente single fue “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, la cual tuvo un moderado éxito en comparación con su antecesora. Recuerdo que la escuché en Doble Nueve y me gustó más que la anterior canción por su muy buen ritmo y la soberbia interpretación de la O’Connor. El tema fue escrito por Sinead O’Connor y producido por Nellee Hooper, Sinéad O'Connor, Chris Birkett y Sean Devitt. Fue lanzado como segundo single del álbum “I DO NOT WANT WHAT I HAVEN’T GOT” el 5 de Junio de 1990, llegando al N° 1 en el USA Modern Rock Tracks. Además fue N° 19 en Bélgica, N° 23 en Holanda, N° 25 en Japón, N° 27 en Austria, N° 31 en UK y N° 60 en USA, según Billboard. Han pasado 25 años y vale la pena evocar este gran tema.
