Llegamos al tercer viernes del mes de
Junio, y el día de hoy toca presentar el segmento musical dedicado a una
canción de los BEE GEES. Como lo indiqué a inicios de este año 2013, 1978 fue
el año de la explosión de “Saturday Night Fever” y sobre todo, de la música de
los Bee Gees y es por ello, que al cumplirse 35 años de las canciones de los
BEE GEES que formaron parte del soundtrack del film, su presencia en este
segmento es infaltable. Y ya tuvimos el tema “Stayin’ Alive” en Febrero y ahora
es turno del otro gran hit de este film: “Night
Fever”. Voy a ser sincero, la primera vez que la escuché como que no me
llenó mucho y no me gustaba tanto como “Stayin’ Alive” o “How Deep Is Your
Love”. Pero mi perspectiva cambió un poco cuando ví la película y sobre todo,
cuando me tocó bailarla en una fiesta. Allí como que le fui agarrando algo de
gusto al ritmo del tema y comenzó a gustarme. Y al igual que los dos anteriores
temas señaladas, aquí en nuestro medio fue un gran éxito y se escuchó bastante
en todas las diferentes estaciones de radio. Y en los rankings de fin de año,
prácticamente en todas las emisoras locales estuvo dentro de las cinco
primeras. Aunque en ese año 1978, nunca llegué a ver su video y recién en el
año 1999, cuando ví un documental de VH1, pude ver partes del clip, en donde
Barry salía sin su característica barba. Años después, gracias a Youtube, pude
verlo completo.

"Night Fever" fue escrita por Barry, Robin y Maurice
Gibb y producida por los Bee Gees, Albhy Galuten y Karl Richardson. Fue grabada
en Abril de 1977 en Château d'Hérouville, en Francia, y en Setiembre de 1977, en
Criteria Studios, en Miami, Florida. Como se sabe, en 1977, el manager de los
Bee Gees, Robert Stigwood estaba produciendo una película acerca de la escena
Disco en New York y en principio, el título era “Saturday Night”, y le pidió al
grupo que escribiera un tema con ese nombre. A los hermanos Gibb no les gustaba
ese título y además ya habían escrito un tema llamado “Night Fever”. Así que
llegaron a convencer a Stigwood para utilizar esa canción y cambiar el título
del film a “Saturday Night Fever”. De esta forma, fue lanzada como single el 7
de Febrero de 1978, llegando el 18 de Marzo al Nª 1 en USA, según Billboard, y permaneciendo
8 semanas en dicha posición. También fue Nª 1 en UK, Canadá, España, Irlanda y
Brasil, Nª 2 en Alemania, Bélgica, Noruega, Sudáfrica y Nueva Zelanda, Nª 3 en
Holanda y China, Nª 4 en Austria y Japón, Nª 5 en Italia y Suecia, Nª 6 en
Finlandia, Nª 7 en Australia y Nª 31 en Francia.
En lo que respecta a su performance en vivo, el tema fue
incluido en la gran gira que el trío realizó en el año 1979. Una década
después, en la gira mundial que emprendieron en 1989 por el álbum “ONE”, “Night
Fever” fue dejada de lado y no fue interpretado por el grupo en sus shows, lo cual se mantendría en sus siguientes giras. Pero sería en los
shows correspondientes a la gira “ONE NIGHT ONLY”, cuando nuevamente fue tocada
por los Bee Gees como parte de un medley junto con el hit “More Than A Woman”. Luego de 35 años, esta canción continúa formando parte de la memoria colectiva de todos aquellos quienes la vivieron en 1978 y aún sigue generando enormes ganas de bailarla cuando es escuchada en una fiesta.
