Llegamos al último segmento musical dedicado al año 1985 y en
esta ocasión, tenemos dos recordados hits que tuvieron bastante éxito.
1.- THE BOYS OF
SUMMER (Don Henley).- Tras el enorme éxito alcanzado por la banda norteamericana The
Eagles en 1979 y 1980, vino la separación del grupo y Don Henley comenzó una
carrera solista y en 1982, tuvo un gran hit con “Johnny Can’t Read” y “Dirty Laundry”.
Y en el verano de 1985, dio en el clavo con la muy buena canción “The Boys Of Summer”. Recuerdo mucho
que aquí en nuestro medio, tuvo bastante difusión en las diversas emisoras de
radio y su video fue bastante difundido en el recordado canal de UHF, Canal 27,
así como en el programa “La Máquina del Rock”. El tema fue escrito por Don
Henley y Mike Campbell y producido por Don Henley, Danny Kortchmar, Greg
Ladanyi y Mike Campbell. Fue incluido en el álbum “BUILDING THE PERFECT BEAST”,
siendo lanzado como single el 29 de Octubre de 1984, pero sería en el verano de
1985 cuando alcanzaría el éxito, llegando al N° 5 en USA, según Billboard. Además
fue N° 1 en el US Billboard Top Rock Tracks por 5 semanas, N° 7 en Irlanda, N°
12 en UK, N° 15 en Canadá, N° 18 en Alemania y Nueva Zelanda, y N° 26 en
Holanda. En una entrevista en 1987, Don Henley explicó que la canción era más
acerca de envejecer y hacerte preguntas sobre el pasado. En cuanto al video
clip del tema, fue dirigido por Jean-Baptiste Mondino y mostraba al principal
personaje de la canción en tres diferentes etapas de su vida, como un niño, un
adulto joven y un hombre de mediana edad. Finalmente, en 1986, Henley obtuvo un
Grammy como Mejor Performance Masculina Vocal Rock por esta canción. Tres
décadas después, siempre es bueno, evocar este gran tema.

2.- SAY YOU, SAY
ME (Lionel Richie).- En la primera mitad de la década del 80, Lionel Richie dejó
atrás una trayectoria exitosa con The Commodoroes, para iniciar una carrera
solista. Y alcanzó un enorme éxito con el mega hit “All Night Long” a fines de
1983 y durante todo el año 1984. En el último trimestre, continuaría por la
misma senda exitosa con el tema “Say
You, Say Me”, tema principal del film “White Nights” –protagonizado por Mikhail Baryshnikov y Gregory Hines. El tema fue
escrito por Lionel Richie y producido por Lionel Richie y James Anthony Carmichael.
Fue lanzado como single en Octubre de 1985, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según
Billboard. Además, fue N° 1 en el US Billboard Adult Contemporary, Noruega,
Suiza y Suecia, N° 4 en Francia, N° 8 en UK, N° 12 en Alemania y N° 25 en
Japón. Curiosamente, el tema no fue incluido en el soundtrack del film “White
Nights”, porque el sello Motown no quiso que el primer single de Richie después
del álbum “CAN’T SLOW DOWN” apareciera en otro sello discográfico, y finalmente
apareció en el álbum “DANCING ON THE CEILING” en 1986. Finalmente, obtuvo un
Oscar y un Globo de Oro como Mejor Canción Original de Film. 30 años después,
recordamos esta hermosa canción.

Este ha sido el último segmento musical correspondiente a 1985.
Espero que estas buenas canciones hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, los
espero con sus visitas y comentarios. De esta forma, cerramos musicalmente este
año 1985 en el blog y de manera definitiva, y despedimos este muy buen año
musical como lo fue 1985, que formó parte de mis años universitarios y que fue
parte de mi vida. Ha sido un placer enorme e inmenso, haber revivido este año
1985 de manera mensual. Cuando llegue el 2020 ya no retornará esta sección
musical, debido a que creo haber presentado prácticamente todas mis canciones
favoritas de 1985. A partir de enero del 2016, estaremos dándole nuevamente la
bienvenida al año 1986 en este segmento musical de "Hace 30 Años", que
irán de manera mensual y con temas que merecen ser posteados en el blog. Ya en
el 2011, ya tuvimos bastantes temas que fueron posteados en la sección “Hace 25
Años” y a partir del 2016, me estaré enfocando preferentemente en canciones que
formaron parte de álbumes exitosos. Será hasta el miércoles 20 de enero del 2016.
