MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 25 AÑOS (1987-X)

Llegamos al décimo segmento musical dedicado al año 1987, hace 25 años, cuando el que escribe contaba con 24 años de edad. Y en esta ocasión, tendremos dos temas que probablemente no tuvieron un éxito masivo en ese momento, pero que realmente gozaron de mis totales preferencias, como para incluirlas en este segmento y no condenarlas al olvido.

1.-  IN MY DREAMS (REO Speedwagon).- En la primera mitad de la década del 80, uno de los grupos que destacó nítidamente fue REO Speedwagon. Desde el 81 con su album “HI INFIDELITY” y los singles exitosos que salieron de allí, el hit “Keep The Fire Burning” de 1982 y luego con el mega hit de 1985 “Can’t Fight This Feeling” –que ya fueron posteados en los segmentos musicales de 1981 y 1985-, el grupo llegó a la cúspide, comercialmente hablando. Para la segunda mitad de los 80’s, aparecieron con un nuevo album, pero como que no cosechó el mismo éxito de sus antecesores y a partir de allí, decaería un poco la popularidad del grupo. Pero en ese album, había una balada que en lo personal, desde que la escuché y ví su video, me flechó totalmente por su hermoso ritmo melódico: “In My Dreams”. Era una muy suave balada que te invitaba a bailarla con la personas que amas, y pegado cachete con cachete –no papada con papada, por si acaso- y te transmitía paz y harto relax al escucharla y era para dejarse llevar por su ritmo. Y realmente se convirtió en mi canción favorita de esta muy buena banda norteamericana. 

"In My Dreams" fue escrita por Kevin Cronin y Tom Kelly y producida por Kevin Cronin, Gary Richrath, Alan Gratzer y David DeVore, siendo grabada entre abril y diciembre de 1986 en el estudio Rumbo Recorders en Los Angeles. Fue incluida en el album “LIFE AS WE KNOW IT” y fue lanzada como segundo single de dicho album en febrero de 1987, llegando al Nª 19 en USA, según Billboard. Aquí recuerdo que tuvo poca difusión radial, a diferencia de éxitos anteriores. Pero ello no aminora la calidad de esta muy hermosa canción que hoy, 25 años después de su aparición, vale la pena recordarla una vez más en el blog.

2.-  LOVE LIKE A ROCKET (Bob Geldof).-  En la década del 80, exactamente entre 1984 y 1986, Bob Geldof se hizo famoso por su cruzada contra el hambre en Africa, tanto con el single “Do They Know It’s Christmas” en 1984 como con el mega festival “LIVE AID” en julio de 1985. Geldof era conocido por provenir de la banda británica Boomtown Rats, que tuvieron un gran hit en 1979 con “I Don’t Like Mondays”. Luego que pasara todo lo relacionado a la cruzada a favor del Africa, Geldof decidió volver a lo suyo, la música. Y me acuerdo mucho que un día que estaba escuchando Radio Doble Nueve, fue anunciado lo nuevo de Bob Geldof y era la canción “This Is The World Calling”, que era un buen tema. Pero días después, en aquellas épocas del canal 33 UHF, estaba viendo un programa musical y pasaron otra canción de Geldof, llamada “Love Like A Rocket”. Y era algo diferente al tema antes mencionado y me gustó muchísimo por su muy contagiante y pegajoso ritmo y sobre todo, por su video, en donde apareció como invitado el gran Eric Clapton en el solo de guitarra y en una escena en la que Geldof se pone a bailar al estilo de los 60’s, que es para arrastrarse de la risa. Y quedé totalmente enganchado con esta buena canción.

"Love Like a Rocket" fue escrita por Bob Geldof y alguien de apellido Doom y producida por Rupert Hime. Fue incluida en el album “DEEP IN THE HEART OF NOWHERE, que fue primer album como solista, y fue lanzada como segundo single en Febrero de 1987, pero solo en UK y Europa. Años después, en el 2005 fue remasterizada y relanzada en el recopilatorio “THE GREAT SONGS OF INDIFFERENCE: THE ANTHOLOGY 1986-2001”. 25 años después, volvemos a evocar este muy agradable tema en el presente post. And like he's waited for this moment

Este ha sido el antepenúltimo segmento musical de 1987. Ya nos quedan dos segmentos más –dos más y nos vamos- para concluir el 2012. Espero que estos dos temas hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
