Continuamos con el segmento musical de 1986 de este mes de Junio,
hace 30 años, que iniciamos ayer y para el día de hoy, he querido escoger para
ti dos grandes canciones del exitoso álbum “INVISIBLE TOUCH” de la banda
británica Genesis.
1.- INVISIBLE
TOUCH (Genesis).- En la primera
mitad de la década del 80, Genesis había pasado de ser un grupo de rock
progresivo y hasta de culto, a una buena banda pop comercial y con éxito. Tuvieron Buenos singles como “Turn It On Again”, “Misunderstanding”,
“Abacab”, “Keep It Dark”, “Mama”, “Illegal Alien” y “That’s All”, pero ninguno
había llegado al N° 1 en USA. En 1986 dieron en el clavo con el muy exitoso álbum
“INVISIBLE TOUCH” y particularmente, con el tema “Invisible Touch”, que tenía bastante ritmo y con un sonido bien
ochentero. Fue escrito por Tony Banks, Phil Collins y Mike Rutherford y
producido por Genesis y Hugh Padgham. Fue lanzado como primer single del álbum “INVISIBLE
TOUCH” el 19 de Mayo de 1986, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, el 19
de Julio de 1986. Además fue N° 3 en Australia, N° 4 en Canadá, N° 7 en
Irlanda, N° 13 en Suiza, N° 15 en UK y Finlandia, N° 16 en Alemania, N° 21 en
Italia y N° 28 en Holanda, llegando a ser el single más exitoso de su carrera.
En diversas ocasiones, tanto Phil Collins como Mike Rutherford han hablado muy
bien de este tema. Collins la calificado como “su canción favorita de Genesis”, mientras que Rutherford señaló
que era “una maravillosa canción:
optimista, divertida para tocar, y siempre un momento fuerte en cualquier
presentación”. Finalmente, como dato curioso, el tema fue desplazado del
primer lugar en USA justamente por el tema “Sledgehammer” de Peter Gabriel –quien fuera vocalista de Genesis. En
una entrevista en el 2014, Phil Collins señaló: “Leí recientemente que Peter Gabriel nos sacó del primer lugar con ‘Sledgehammer’.
Nosotros no supimos de eso en ese momento. Si lo hubiésemos sabido,
probablemente le habríamos mandado un telegrama diciendo: ‘Felicitaciones –
bastardo’”. 30 años después, es momento de recordar este buen hit de
Genesis. Disfrútalo.

2.- THROWING IT
ALL AWAY (Genesis).- Luego del éxito alcanzado por el single “Invisible Touch”, el
siguiente paso fue la contraparte melódica con la muy bella balada “Throwing It All Away”, interpretada
con bastante feeling por parte de Phil Collins. Fue escrita por Tony Banks,
Phil Collins y Mike Rutherford y producida por Genesis y Hugh Padgham. Fue
lanzada como segundo single del álbum “INVISIBLE TOUCH” el 8 de Agosto de 1986,
llegando al N° 4 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue N° 1 en el US Adult
Contemporary Charts el 11 de Octubre de 1986 y N° 22 en UK. Han transcurrido 30
años de esta bella canción y vale la pena evocarla. Disfrútala.
