MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 40 AÑOS (1972-VI)

Y comenzamos hoy un nuevo mes, el mes de Agosto, y siendo hoy día miércoles, corresponde el turno al segmento musical de 1972, hace ya 40 años. Y en esta oportunidad, tendremos dos muy bellas canciones de dos recordados grupos norteamericanos.

1.-  SUMMER BREEZE (Seals And Crofts).- La primera vez que escuché esta canción, “Summer Breeze”, fue a mediados de los 70’s en la radio y me gustó mucho por sus bellas y suaves armonías y la hermosa instrumentación y su interpretación. Pero desconocía quienes la cantaban. Recién a mediados de los 80’s, volví a escucharla en un programa radial del recuerdo y me quedó grabado que era interpretado por el dúo norteamericano Seals & Crofts, compuesto por Jim Seals y Dash Crofts. Y cada vez que la escucho, me relaja enormemente esta muy bella canción. Uno la escucha y se imagina estar descansando en una playa, escuchando las brisas del mar y relajadazo.

"Summer Breeze" fue escrita por Jim Seals y Dash Crofts, y producida por Louie Shelton. Fue incluida en el album “SUMMER BREEZE” y lanzada como single en agosto de 1972, llegando al Nª 6 en USA y Canadá, y Nª 4 en el U.S. Billboard Easy Listening Charts. Han pasado ya 40 años de este hermoso clásico y sigue siendo una de las más bellas creaciones musicales que se hayan hecho en la historia de la música, cuyo ritmo melodía y melodía llegan directamente al corazón. Y hoy, la volvemos a evocar en el blog.

2.-  A HORSE WITH NO NAME (America).-  Tuve la oportunidad de escuchar por primera vez al grupo America en 1974 con el tema "Tin Man" y un año después en 1975 con la hermosa canción "Sister Golden Hair". Pero años después, supe que este grupo norteamericano había tenido un muy exitoso debut en 1972 con una canción titulada "A Horse With No Name".  Y cuando la escuché por primera vez, me pareció algo distinto a los dos temas mencionados anteriormente, pero en un ritmo bien agradable y bien folk, con una melodía suave y cadenciosa. Y al igual que la canción anterior, era super relajante y al escucharla uno se podía imaginar cabalgando por la carretera, tranquilo y sin prisas. 

"A Horse with No Name" fue escrita por Dewey Bunnell y producida por Ian Samwell. Fue incluida en el album "AMERICA" y fue el primer single de la banda, que fue lanzado el 31 de Enero de 1972, llegando al Nª 1 el 25 de marzo de 1972 por 3 semanas. También fue Nª 1 en Canadá, Nª 3 en UK y en el U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary, Nª 4 en Irlanda, y Nª 12 en Holanda. Originalmente la canción había sido titulada "Desert Song" y fue escrita mientras la banda estaba en el estudio de Arthur Brown, en Puddletown, Dorset. Los primeros dos demos fueron grabados allí por Jeff Dexter y Dennis Elliott, e intentaba capturar el sentimiento del caliente y seco desierto que había sido descrito en el estudio de un cuadro de Salvador Dalí y el extraño caballo que había estado cabalgando en un cuadro de tM.C. Escher. Dewey Bunnell también indicó que él recordaba los viajes de su niñez cuando su familia vivía en la Base Aérea de Vandenberg. Aunque en su momento habían algunas interpretaciones antojadizas de que se refería al uso de drogas que venían del hecho que "horse" era una jerga de la heroína. En fin.  Y en lo personal, una de los momentos más gratos que tuve fue cuando en abril de 1994, fui a ver a America en el Muelle Uno y fue un concierto inolvidable. Y el cierre del show fue precisamente este super clásico, que hoy 40 años después, la recordamos nuevamente en el blog.
