HACE 50 AÑOS (1965-III)

Llegamos al primer miércoles del mes de Junio, y hoy corresponde presentar el segmento musical bimensual dedicado al año 1965, hace 50 años. Para el día de hoy, he querido elegir dos muy buenas canciones del recordado trío vocal femenino The Supremes.

1.- STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE (The Supremes).- Sin duda alguna, uno de los números más exitosos de Motown Records fue el trío femenino The Supremes, liderado por la gran Diana Ross. Desde 1964, colocaron hit tras hit en los charts y en 1965 siguió ese imparable éxito con el tema “Stop! In The Name Of Love”. Debo ser sincero que la primera vez que escuché esta canción no fue en su versión original, sino en el muy buen cover de este tema, hecho por la agrupación británica The Hollies, el cual me gustó. Años después, pude escuchar la versión de The Supremes y me encantó por su buen ritmo y su estilo típico de la Motown. El tema fue escrito por el team autoral Holland–Dozier–Holland y producido por Brian Holland y Lamont Dozier. Fue grabado el 5, 7 y 11 de Enero de 1965 en el estudio A de Hitsville. Fue incluido en el álbum “MORE HITS BY THE SUPREMES” y lanzando como single el 8 de Febrero de 1965, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, el 27 de Marzo de 1965 por una semana. Además fue N° 1 Alemania, N° 2 en el U.S. Billboard Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles, N° 3 en Canadá y N° 7 en UK. Y algo que se recuerda de la perfomance de este tema fue la coreografía de The Supremes, con una mano en la cadera y la otra extendida en un gesto de “Stop”, la cual fue enseñada por Paul Williams y Melvin Franklin de The Temptations, antes de la primera performance del tema por el trío en el especial “The Sound Of Motown” en el programa “Ready Steady Go!”. Ha transcurrido medio siglo de esta canción y hoy la recordamos en el presente post.

2.- BACK IN MY ARMS AGAIN (The Supremes).- Luego del éxito del single “Stop! In The Name Of Love”, el siguiente tema que seguiría esa senda exitosa fue “Back In My Arms Again”. El tema fue escrito por el team autoral Holland–Dozier–Holland y producido por Brian Holland y Lamont Dozier. Fue grabado el 1° de Diciembre de 1964 y el 24 de Febrero de 1965 en el estudio A en Hitsville, y fue lanzado como single el 15 de Abril de 1965, llegando al N° 1 en USA, según Billboard, el 6 de Junio por una semana. Además fue N° 1 en el US Billboard R&B Singles y Canadá, y N° 40 en UK. 50 años después, es momento de escuchar este buen tema.

Este ha sido el tercer segmento musical de 1965. Espero que estos dos buenos recuerdos de The Supremes hayan sido de su agrado, y como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentarios.
