MIS CANCIONES FAVORITAS: HACE 30 AÑOS (1982-IX)

Llegamos al día miércoles y hoy corresponde el noveno segmento musical dedicado a 1982, hace ya 30 años, cuando el que escribe contaba con 19 años de edad. Y en esta oportunidad, tenemos dos muy buenas canciones de dos grupos norteamericanos, que alcanzaron bastante éxito en nuestro medio.

1.-  VACATION (The Go Go’s).-  En 1981 me llamó mucho la atención ver a un grupo musical de rock enteramente femenino en el que todas sus integrantes tocaban los instrumentos.  En ese año había tenido un gran éxito con el tema “We Got The Beat” y había sido una grata revelación. Y al año siguiente, siguieron por esa senda exitosa con la canción “Vacation” y cuando la escuché en la radio me atrapó de inmediato por su muy buen ritmo y su estilo bien ochentero. Aquí en nuestro medio tuvo una buena difusión radial y su video también se veía con frecuencia en “Disco Club”, y además era infaltable en las fiestas y en las discotecas.

"Vacation" fue compuesta por Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine y Jane Wiedlin y producida por Richard Gottehrer. Fue incluida en el album “VACATIONS” y lanzada como single el 26 de Junio de 1982, llegando al Nª 8 en USA, según Billboard. Además fue Nª 13 en el U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks y Nª 23 en Canadá. En cuanto al video de la canción, fue filmado en todo un día. Al respecto, Kathy Valentine recordaba que bebieron “bastante champagne, un montón”. A su vez, Jane Wiedlin señaló que los efectos eran evidentes durante los closeups de las chicas al final del video: “Si observas nuestros ojos, estamos tan borrachas. Ni siquiera tratamos de hacerlo parecer como si realmente estuviéramos esquiando en el agua”. 30 años después, este tema sigue siendo uno de los temas más representativos de la década del 80 y hoy lo volvemos a evocar en el blog.

2.-  YOU CAN DO MAGIC (America).-  En 1982, uno de los más gratos regresos en el mundo de la música fue la del grupo America, quienes en la primera mitad de los 70’s habían cosechado bastantes hits. Y habían retornado como dúo en vez de trío y con un sonido más moderno y acorde con esos años de la década del 80. Y una muestra de ella fue su muy buena canción “You Can Do Magic”. Me gustó muchísimo su ritmo y desde el intro, te contagiaba bastante, pero a su vez era melódico y armónico. Aquí en nuestro medio, este tema la rompió y se escuchó bastante en las diferentes emisoras del dial y su video también fue regularmente difundido en los programas musicales de TV.

"You Can Do Magic" fue compuesta y producida por el cantante y compositor Russ Ballard y grabada el 2 de Marzo de 1982 en el Abbey Road Studio 2, siendo incluida en el album “VIEW FROM THE GROUND”. Ballard escribió este tema específicamente para America, a solicitud de Rupert Perry, vicepresidente de A & R para Capitol Records. Y el single fue un triunfal regreso para el dúo, llegando al Nª 8 en USA, según Billboard, y además fue Nª 12 en Nueva Zelanda, Nº 20 en Irlanda, Nº 27 en Italia, Nº 30 en Australia, Nº 37 en Canadá y Nº 59 en UK. Este sería el último gran éxito de America, aunque en 1983 tuvieron una muy tema con “The Border”. Y en lo personal, algo que no olvido jamás, fue la oportunidad de haber vivido este tema en vivo en el concierto de America en Lima en abril de 1994 en el Muelle Uno. Fue un muy buen concierto y en esta canción, a voz en cuello coreé la parte del coro del tema en un momento inolvidable. 30 años han pasado, y siempre es grato volver a recordar esta gran canción.

Este ha sido el noveno segmento musical de 1982. Espero que estos dos muy buenos temas hayan sido de su agrado y como siempre, los espero con sus visitas y comentario.
