ANGLO 60'S: BEATLES & STONES LXXVI

Llegamos al primer viernes de Setiembre y corresponde presentarte el segmento musical “Anglo 60’s”, dedicado a un tema musical de los Beatles y los Rolling Stones. En esta ocasión, he querido elegir dos temas de 1967 de estas dos legendarias bandas.

1.- GETTING BETTER (The Beatles).- Nuevamente he querido elegir una canción del mítico álbum “SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND” –que en el 2017 cumplirá medo siglo de vida- y el día de hoy, el tema escogido es “Getting Better”, que posee un buen ritmo melódico con un sonido bien 60’s y cuyo estilo hace recordar un poco al gran tema “Penny Lane”. El tema fue escrito por la dupla autoral Lennon/McCartney, aunque fue principalmente compuesto por Paul, con contribuciones de John en la letra. Fue grabado el 9 de Marzo de 1967 y producido por George Martin. Fue incluido como álbum track del “SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND” –lanzado el 1° de Junio de 1967. Tanto el título del tema como la música refleja cierto optimismo, aunque algunas de las letra tiene un tono más negativo, como por ejemplo en la línea de Paul, ‘it’s getting better all the time’, John responde ‘Can’t get no worse’ -no puede estar peor. En una entrevista en 1983, Paul elogió esta contribución como un ejemplo de cosas que él ‘no podía nunca haber hecho él mismo’. Y en cuanto a la línea ‘I used to be cruel to my woman/I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved/Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene/And I'm doing the best that I can’, John admitió que había hecho cosas en relaciones en el pasado, de las que no se sentía orgulloso. 49 años después, siempre es grato recordar esta buena canción. Disfrútala.

2.- 2000 MAN (The Rolling Stones).- En este segmento musical, cada vez que presento un tema de los Beatles del “SGT. PEPPER’S …”, va acompañado de una canción proveniente del álbum “THEIR SATANIC MAJESTIES REQUEST”, que fue lanzado en ese mismo año 1967, en el mes de Diciembre. Este álbum de los Stones fue su manera de estar a la par con el “SGT. PEPPER’S …”, con un contenido bastante psicodélico. Dentro de este álbum, he elegido la canción “2000 Man”. El tema fue escrito por la dupla autoral de Mick Jagger y Keith Richards y producido por The Rolling Stones. Originalmente, su título era “I Want People To Know” y en 1979, fue grabado como cover por Kiss en su álbum “DINASTY”. Luego de 49 años, es momento de escuchar este buen tema de los Stones. Disfrútalo.
